Young Citizen of the Year bridges the tech gap for seniors

RESIDENTS at The Shoreline Luxury Retirement Living in Coffs Harbour recently attended a presentation designed to bridge the tech gap for older generations.

It was delivered by the 2025 Young Citizen of the Year, Nathan Armstrong.

Born in Coffs Harbour, and now a Sawtell local, Nathan is known for his Sunday afternoon program on 104.1 CHY FM and for his efforts to help seniors navigate smartphones and the internet confidently.

“Scams are becoming very sophisticated and the latest tech trends such as Artificial Intelligence and cashless payments, make it difficult for seniors to keep up with the rapid pace change in technology,” Nathan said.

Attendees learnt a number of topics ranging from how to stay safe from scams, understanding the latest technology trends and what makes technology tricky for seniors.

They also learnt how to understand device functionality and to take simple steps to protect themselves and their information.

“Technology can be challenging for the seniors.

“Smartphones often have small buttons, confusing menus, fast animations and too much information.

“What they would like is something simple and easy, and that’s where I come in and help at their own pace.”

The success of this initiative reflects a growing need for tech support, especially for seniors.
