HUNDREDS gathered at Jetty Beach on Saturday morning, attempting a world record for the largest banana formation made by people.
Dressed mostly in yellow, locals came together to form a giant human banana on the sand.
The attempt was a success, with the record never having been attempted before.
Hosted by Coffs Harbour Mayor Nikki Williams and Channel Nine’s Jane DeGraff, the event brought families, community groups and visitors together in a playful tribute to the region’s rich banana-growing heritage.
The event also raised awareness of Coffs Harbour’s entry in the NSW Top Tourism Town Awards.
Voting is now open, with Coffs in the mix against Ballina, Forbes, Kiama, Moree, Orange, Shellharbour and Wollongong.
Mayor Williams said the event was a fun way to celebrate the community and its tourism offerings.
“Tourism is such an important part of our local economy, supporting jobs, small businesses and the future of our region,” Mayor Williams said.
“Events like this not only bring people together, they help showcase everything that makes Coffs Harbour a destination worth visiting — and worth voting for.”
Voting in the NSW Top Tourism Town Awards is open until 3 May at https://nswtourismassociation.com.au/top-tourism-town-2026.
