Rotary Clubs gather at Sawtell for a showcase of their many programs

ROTARY Club of Sawtell hosted a showcase for regional members at Sawtell RSL on Sunday 11 October.

More than 75 representatives gathered from Areas 4 and 5 of Rotary District 9660.

These two areas are bounded by Woolgoolga in the north, Dorrigo and Wauchope to the west and Laurieton to the south.

The focus of the showcase was on subjects such as Child Protection, Falls Prevention, Domestic Violence, Governance, Technology and Public Image and hearing about some of the myriad programs being run in local clubs.

“The experience of those present ranged from a Bellingen Rotarian who celebrated 50 years as a member to a Dorrigo member who became a Rotarian that morning,” Rotary Club of Sawtell spokesperson Peter Paff told News Of The Area.

“There were also one or two prospective members who were there to experience the event and learn more about Rotary.”

The day was led by a past district governor, and two incoming governors.

“Sadly, current governor Di Hall from Rotary E Club was unable to attend due to a fall.”

This incident highlighted the current year’s Falls Prevention program.

“Each year the governor’s partner selects a project for clubs to take on board and this year clubs are adopting two projects, one being Falls Prevention and the other Say NO to Domestic Violence,” Mr Paff said.

Rotary Showcases are a way for smaller groups of people representing local Rotary clubs to share a day of learning and fellowship without the added cost of lengthy travel and can be done in one day.

“The idea is gaining support and is particularly apt with the increased size of Rotary Districts and fuel costs.”

Rotary District 9660 covers an area west to Bourke and encompasses 100 clubs all over NSW and includes Newcastle to the south and Woolgoolga to the north.

The district will be enlarged in 2028/29 to 160 clubs from the Queensland border to the Parramatta River in the south.

“Rotary District 9660 and the hosts, Rotary Club of Sawtell, would like to thank the Sawtell RSL Club and its staff who made the day run so smoothly and for their “nothing is too much trouble” attitude,” Mr Paff said.
