Coffs Coast rider wins national title

Archie Blanchette celebrates on top of the podium.

ARCHIE Blanchette has conquered all before him to be crowned a national motocross champion.

The Coffs Coast rider won the 65cc 2T 7–10 years title at the KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championship.

The 10-year-old won the Australian title after triumphing at the Goulburn Valley Junior Motorcycle Club track in Shepparton.

The Yamaha rider finished the championship two points clear of his nearest rival, KTM rider Ash McPherson.

He also made history becoming the first rider to win the 65cc title on a Yamaha YZ65.

The St Augustine’s student started the last day outside the top spot, but climbed two places to take it.

The newly crowned Australian champion shared his thoughts on his title win.

“I felt pretty good, but it hasn’t hit me yet,” he said.

“I think we raced about six times, we have heat races which I won two of them, and came second in one.

“This is my first time winning an Australian title, but last year I won a NSW title and this year I got second.”

He is now aiming for further glory on the track.

“I hope I win an 85cc title next year, and just win as many of them as I can,” he said.

“My ultimate goal is to be the best in the world at some point in my life.”
