THE Coramba Hotel’s Sharp Dressed Doggo Competition brought out the valley’s most fashionable four-legged locals on Saturday, with tutus, country cow costumes and some seriously committed owner-dog matching on display.
Coramba Hotel manager Kim Hickson said the turnout exceeded expectations, particularly given the conditions on the day.
“Everyone got into it and the fact that everyone put in the effort was just amazing,” Hickson said.
“Especially with the weather being a bit challenging and a little bit windy, it was good to see the turnout that we had.”
The prizes were sourced by the hotel itself, with Hickson making a point of visiting local pet stores to ensure everything on offer was natural and treat-worthy for the canine competitors.
Two winners took home top honours on the day, with vouchers also handed out as encouragement awards for those who threw themselves into the spirit of the occasion.
Smudge the Blue Cow claimed Best Dressed Dog, while Chilli and their matching crew took out the coveted Best Owner and Dog Look-Alike category.
Local resident Beka Connors said events like Saturday’s were exactly what makes the Coramba Hotel more than just a pub.
“It’s a real community lifeline up here,” Connors said.
“These family-friendly events bring everyone together – dogs, kids, locals – and it doesn’t matter if the weather plays up.
“People still show up and that says everything about this community.”
