ENVIRONMENTAL organisation OzGREEN has launched the Rethink Waste Ideas competition.
Based in Bellingen, OzGREEN’s mission is to create sustainable communities in regional NSW working across four key areas of waste, rivers, trees and wellbeing.
The Rethink Waste Ideas competition invites schools, households, community groups and businesses from the Coffs Harbour local government area to step forward with creative, practical ideas to reduce waste across the region.
Open from 1 December until 22 February, the competition aims to showcase and celebrate clever waste-reduction solutions that everyday people can adopt – helping spark a more circular, sustainable local economy.
“We know the best ideas often come from the lived experience of families, students, workplaces, and community groups who want to reduce waste but need simple, everyday solutions that work,” Rethink Waste Program Manager Kathleen Hannah said.
“Small ideas can have a big impact, and this competition is designed to elevate those ideas and inspire others to take action and help them spread.”
There are 10 prizes including an Eco-Tumbler, Darth Vader compost aerators, worm farms and Bokashi bins.
The competition is supported by the City of Coffs Harbour and MidWaste.
Participants can either submit a short, written description and optional photo of their idea or upload a super-short video.
Entries can be submitted via the online form at ozgreen.org/rethinkwaste, or posted on Facebook/Instagram using #rethinkwaste and tagging @OzGREEN.
All entries will be celebrated on social media, featured in a free Rethink Waste Community Calendar and displayed in a special exhibition at Coffs Harbour City Library in 2026.
