Record success for Coffs Harbour City Rotary Club’s annual Show and Shine

A RECORD 120 polished and preened cars rolled into Park Beach Plaza (PBP) on Sunday 10 August for display at the Coffs Harbour City Rotary Club annual Show and Shine.

With a record visitor attendance, the motor show was deemed an all-round huge success for the club.

Cars from Brisbane to Taree joined those from local clubs and enthusiasts.

“Thanks go to Mike Camilleri for controlling and placing the cars on the day assisted by sons Lucas and Dominic and friend Darin,” Coffs City Rotary Chair Bob Carle said.

“And to Mitch Law from the National Holden Motor Museum for helping enormously behind the scenes.”

Stewart Copeland from Red Point donated the trophies and assisted in judging the awards.

His highlights were Grant Middleton’s HT Holden Monaro winning Best Holden; Mike Camilleri’s Pontiac Firebird Trans Am voted Best Muscle Car; Best Ford going to a Cream Lincoln Continental; Best Custom Car being Steve McCudden’s Black Ford V8 powered VW Beetle; Best Race Car, a Red 1969 Morris Cooper S; Best paint, the Green VK Holden Commodore; and Best Interior the Buick ‘Boat-tailed’ Riviera.

“The Park Beach Plaza Staff, especially the security night shift, helped make the event a success by putting our display into the Shopping Centre a week before in the middle of the night, and having the gates and lights on at 6am on Sunday when we all got there to start our set up,” Mr Carle said.

Coffs Harbour City Rotary Club’s new President, Ross Paul, was pleased with the results.

In thanking all involved he said the money collected on the day goes to the local charities that Rotary supports.

“The event was special this year, helping to celebrate the 1st birthday of the reopening of the National Cartoon Gallery and the establishment of the National Holden Motor Museum.”
