I DISPUTE the Letter to the Editor submitted by Mark Hardy (Coffs CBD has a critical lack of parking, NOTA, 24/07/26).
The CBD area of Coffs Harbour is a dead zone for the majority of Coffs Harbour shoppers already, and now it is suggested that we pay for a big additional car park to sit there and rot like the rest of the precinct.
The area is not lively enough, and does not contain much to bring people to the CBD … a quick look at vacant shops and so few people inside those still existing, is an indication of the death of that area.
If anyone is to blame, it is the Coffs City Council themselves, in building their green monolith and then inviting everyone to visit it, as well as all the staff and extra things inside it that draws people to it.
Why did that monolith not incorporate a car park for public visitors like every other business is expected to supply when they too want to open a new complex, business etc?
Whenever I visit Coffs CBD, I find it pretty simple to find a car park in the existing large ones at Coffs Central/ex Palms Centre car park, or indeed the one at Park Avenue next to Woolworths, or the Coles car park. It is never difficult.
Save the car park money and spend it where it is needed; on community needs like footpaths, gutters, potholes and actual resident needs.
