I am confident that some of us will begin to question the definition of “Independent candidate”. If you can’t be self-funded, but are being supported by a group with an extreme motive, then you’re not an Independent candidate. An independent candidate should have no attachment.
Oh Bruce, where to start?
Your opening paragraph opens the answer to its own question. ‘How can Caz Heise be independent when she received so much funding from Climate 200?’
Well, it seems you have confused being an ‘independent’ candidate as being contingent with being self-funded. Don’t be delusional. If that was the case then only the rich could ever run for parliament (aka Clive Palmer). The reality is that an independent candidate is simply a candidate that does not belong to a political party. Caz is independent from any political party. That really should be the end of the story.
But I suspect that explanation is not enough for some. Being an independent means that the candidate is not beholden to any party line. They are not huddled into caucus to be told how they must vote, or sent a message on their personal electronic device outside of the chamber to tell them which way they must vote when they step inside (yes, this actually happens).
‘But she’s a Teal!’ Well, there’s no such thing as the Teal Party. It’s a nickname given to like-minded independent candidates supported by Climate 200 and thousands of others.
‘But Simon Holmes a Court and his Climate 200 mob must be demanding something of them!’ No, there is no actual demand. If you doubt this, then I invite you to come up with any evidence whatsoever. What…you can’t find any? That’s because there isn’t any.
As for questioning her integrity…. Have you ever met Ms Heise? I have several times, and my assessment is that her integrity is beyond reproach. I am sure that she would welcome any enquiry from you.
Transparency? It’s all there. All of her policies are available to view. Her professional history is all documented. Her support through Climate 200 and many more of us is out there for all to see. Where’s the lack of transparency?
Did you attend any of the Kitchen Table conversations that were held across all electorates where a need was identified? No? Well, I and thousands of others did. The outcome was that so many of us want change.
Have you attended any of the candidate forums? No? Well, I and thousands of others have. This is how you can get informed.
How about rather than throwing out opinions based on inference and bias, you actually make some genuine enquiries first. Go on, give Caz a call.
How do I find out about the proposed student bus exchange shelter at Korora school.
Previous upgrade did not have a shelter or seats for students going south . Returning students had shelter on the northbound side but not needed and hence truck drivers used it at night.
Hopefully this will be rectified.
I like most Australians are sceptical of all politicians, party based and Independent alike and would like to know just who their major backers are. We mostly know who the major backers of the left and right-wing parties in Australia are, business and the trade unions and have done for a long time, but Independents are a different and much newer thing. With the major parties on the nose with voters Independents are surging and mostly on the back of dissatisfaction with the majors and the independents’ role of holding the two major parties to account rather than their ability to deliver real benefits to individual voters. That being said voters need to be assured that Independents really are independent and not beholden to some nebulous backer. I would assume that if Independents are having their strings pulled by the rich and powerful or some organisation or institution with self-interest the major parties with their multimillion dollar budgets would have the resources to find out which if any Independents are really attempting to enter parliament to push the barrows of unseen sponsors and expose them. I will assume if they don’t do this before the election the independent candidates really are just that, independent and honestly chasing a seat in parliament to represent the mums, dads and children of their electorates, and wouldn’t that be nice for a change.

The very last thing our city needs is to go back to a council dominated by local businesspeople through the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce, a business lobby group has enough power to skew things business’s way in our community regardless of benefit to the community. We have seen our city needs a council that has the welfare of its people to the fore in its decision making not the profits of the few in the business community. Business serves the community not the other way round as many in the business community would like to have it. Let’s ensure we elect those who have been seen to have the welfare of the people and our lifestyles to the forefront of their thinking, business can look after itself.
NIMBYS making comment with no knowledge of the timber industry is laughable. They all live in timber houses, have timber decks even burn wood in their fire pits on their one-acre blocks yet heaven forebid trees can no longer be harvested and replanted in the state forests they decided to move next to a few years back. Oh the sense of entitlement! Their homes at Moonee Beach were probably built using timber products harvested from those forests! So now the EPA wasted time looking into their claims and found no reason for concern. Far out slow news day! Let it be a learning moment!
The labor government is in power in NSW. Mr Judge ran against Mr Singh in the state election and Judge lost to an increased majority.
I don’t know why you are blaming Mr Singh when Labor are pushing the development. You join the minority and loose the battle.
