Snuggled up with a good book

MEMBERS of Coffs Quilters & Needlecraft (CQ&N) recently donated 73 quilts and crocheted or knitted rugs to the Pyjama Foundation, an organisation that supports foster children.

Judy Atkinson, who accepted the quilts on behalf of the Pyjama Foundation, spoke about the importance of literacy, language and communication skills, so all children – especially those in care – had the confidence to succeed at school and at life.

Ms Atkinson said that a key focus of the Pyjama Foundation was on developing a love of reading and learning.

Margie Wallin, of CQ&N, said that members hoped that the donated quilts and rugs would bring comfort and warmth to the recipients, and that many wonderful books and stories would be read while children were wrapped in their very own quilts.

“A large number of these quilts were made by an enthusiastic group of nine members,” Ms Wallin said.

“They have spent each Saturday over the past 3 months, working as a team to design, cut and sew beautiful quilts.”

Susie Smith, one of those involved, said that it had brought the group much joy to work on the quilts together.

Individual members of CQ&N, along with members of another local quilt group, Stashbusting Quilters, provided the other donated quilts and rugs.

New members, from beginners to experienced stitchers, are welcome to join CQ&N. The group meets each Thursday from 8:30-11:45am at Cavanbah Hall.

Workshops and other activities are offered regularly.
