THIS September, one of the Coffs Coast’s most colourful community events reaches an important milestone, with CurryFest Woolgoolga celebrating 20 years.
What began as a community-led celebration in Woolgoolga has grown into a major annual event, attracting upwards of 10,000 people each year and bringing visitors from across the region and beyond.
For around the past decade, Carl Mower from Another Tasty Event has been involved in organising the festival and helping build on the strong foundations established by the local community.
“CurryFest Woolgoolga has always been about bringing people together,” Mr Mower said.
“Reaching 20 years is a fantastic milestone, and it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the community, the cultures and the people who have helped make the event what it is today.”
The main festival day will be held on Saturday 26 September from 9am to 4pm, when Woolgoolga will once again come alive with a huge variety of market stalls, live entertainment, cultural performances and family-friendly activities.
And, of course, there will be curry.
Festival-goers can expect flavours from many different nations and culinary traditions, with a broad selection of curries and other dishes on offer throughout the festival precinct.
The wider anniversary program also includes Saltwater Spice, a CurryFest cabaret, Bollywood Movie by the Beach on Friday evening and Wellness by the Waves on Sunday morning.
For those travelling from surrounding areas, the CurryFest Express will operate from Sawtell / Toormina, Yamba, Grafton, Bellingen and Nambucca / Urunga.
CurryFest Express tickets include entry to CurryFest Woolgoolga, making it an easy way to enjoy the day without having to drive or find parking.
Two decades on, CurryFest Woolgoolga continues to be a celebration of food, culture and community — and this year’s milestone event is shaping up to be one of the biggest yet.
