FOR many people living with a disability, opportunities to connect, share their stories and enjoy a night out in the community make a lasting difference.
That is the inspiration behind Boundless – A Book Ball, a new charity event coming to Coffs Harbour on Saturday 22 August.
Actor and television host Nick Hardcastle, best known for Home and Away and the CBS drama Pure Genius, will return to the region to volunteer as master of ceremonies for the event at Pacific Bay Resort.
Having grown up on the Coffs Coast, Mr Hardcastle said supporting local people living with a disability made the homecoming especially meaningful.
“I have always tried to maintain my connection and be a contributor to the community on the Coffs Coast; even though I haven’t lived there full-time since 1994, I still very much think of it as home,” he told News Of The Area.
“I love that Boundless is all about supporting local, diversely-abled people and their broader community of family and support workers, and encouraging everyone to connect to storytelling.
When I’m in Coffs, I’m excited at the opportunity to work with some participants there on sharing their stories.”
The formal evening will feature a red carpet, three-course dinner, guest authors, a book swap, silent auction and live entertainment, with proceeds helping create more opportunities for people living with disability to participate, connect and thrive.
Coffs Harbour Support Services CEO Joel Aitken said storytelling played an important role in building belonging and breaking down barriers.
“Events like the Boundless Book Ball help us bring people together, raise awareness, celebrate inclusion, and generate funds that can be reinvested into initiatives that improve the lives of people living with a disability across our region,” Mr Aitken said.
“This fundraiser is not just about raising money, it is about building community, sharing stories, and creating opportunities for people to thrive.”
The event is open to people aged 18 and over, with discounted tickets available for NDIS participants and companions.
All proceeds support CHSS’s not-for-profit, local disability service.
The venue is fully accessible for wheelchair users and people with mobility needs, with special dietary requirements able to be accommodated.
