CITY of Coffs Harbour has appointed a new member to its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.
At its meeting on 22 May, Council resolved to confirm Melissa Jacobs as an independent member of the committee for a term of three years.
Council also resolved to send a letter of thanks to Barry Ford, who had served on the committee for more than eight years in a 10-year period, and so, under NSW Government guidelines, was ineligible for re-election.
The City received 35 applications for the vacant committee position, and the recommendation by an internal panel for Ms Jacobs was unanimous.
The Office of Local Government requires all Councils to have an Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).
The committee is tasked with providing independent advice to the Council regarding the following aspects of Council’s operations: Compliance, risk management, fraud control, financial management, governance, implementation of the strategic plan, delivery program and strategies, service reviews, collection of performance measurement data by the Council, and internal audit.
Ms Jacobs will join Peter Van Der Eijk (Chair), Andrew MacLeod and Gurminder Saro (non-voting Councillor member) on the committee.
